My "abstract" painting is about the visual experience we go through before our brain interprets the impulses received through the senses. At this stage, the image we get from our environment and what it contains is not yet constructed, there are no definite objects but shapes in movement without boundaries, interacting at various levels of intensity and colors. It is only after interpretation that the world as we see it takes shape, according to our various conditionings. This last step after interpretation is what is called perception.

As adults, we can be aware of this if we pay attention to our state of mind at the very moment we wake up from sleep or in meditation just before coming back to the agitation of our mental processes. It may also be that, when we are still babies, the world appears to us in such a way because we have no references yet, no language, no intelectual conditioning and objects are not yet recognised. Our perception is still innocent sensation. This may be the reason why we do not keep memories of our very early life if only at the sensation, emotional level.

The interest of being conscious of this underlying state of perception is that it afects us powerfully at the emotional level. This is where the first impact of the external world on our nervous system occurs. If we train ourselves into "seeing" before constructing a mental interpretation, we can observe the energies which are at play in front of us, what directions they are taking and how their interraction is bound to develop. By doing so, we gain a more intuitive relation with the world where perception and reaction becomes closer to dancing with a partner than making things up.

I almost exclusively use oil, as it dries slowly, it permits a better blending of shapes and colors, difusing the boundaries as in the reality I intend to show.

Paintings or drawings of a more figurative nature are just for fun...
